🌿 Introducing Larry: The Heart Behind Leura Gardens Resort

At Leura Gardens Resort, the gardens are more than just a beautiful backdrop, they’re a living story, lovingly nurtured by our Head Horticulturist, Larry Petrovic.

My Journey Into Horticulture

My passion for nature began long before it became my profession. It started in my childhood, wandering garden centres with my mum such as Flower Power.

My childhood bedroom had a window which overlooked a neglected garden bed. With my mum’s encouragement, I planted deep red Geraniums from the store. Those moments that I look back on make me feel immensely proud. Gardening taught me how to nurture my surroundings and how special it is to share those moments with someone you love.

Throughout my career, I have planted my roots in both horticulture and greenkeeping. I have learnt from experienced mentors which have helped shape me into who I am today with the strength to excel on my own. I hope to one day pass on my knowledge and make my love for gardening contagious.

A Legacy in His Veins

I also draw inspiration from my Italian grandparents. Their property built by my grandfather’s bare hands, was filled with fruit trees and vegetable patches. Though my grandfather passed away before I was born, my grandmother would say that my grandfather was an amazing farmer “the best” in fact. As a kid, I could feel their legacy living through her and now through me.

A Garden with Heart

Autumn is my favourite season, this is the time of year where I make the magic happen. I enjoy seeing the dramatic contrast of colour as well as completing major renovations in preparation for Spring and Summer. I feel immensely proud of myself for taking on this 4.5 acre property on my own and a deep connection to the land. I hope that when visitors walk through the gardens that I care for, they feel that same connection.
